The opportunity
Sapa, a worldwide leader in aluminum products, runs a coatings plant in Portland, OR where finishing work demands consistent, high-quality light for both quality control and safety. The plant's existing lighting was energy-hungry and costly to maintain, and light levels across the coating and production areas had fallen below what the team needed. Sapa partnered with Relumination to cut energy and maintenance cost while improving visibility on the line.
What we did
Relumination assessed the Portland coatings plant and delivered the upgrade in phases, replacing the aging, high-wattage fixtures with energy-efficient LEDs suited to a finishing environment. The new lighting raised light levels across the coating and production areas while reducing the connected load and the cost of frequent lamp replacements, and Relumination managed the Energy Trust of Oregon rebate paperwork end to end.
The result
The upgrade saves about $28,202 a year and 112,066 kWh, with $15,821 in utility incentives and a 4.05-year payback.
