Lighting rebates, explained

Commercial LED lighting rebates can cover a large share of your project.

Utilities pay you to take load off the grid, and a lighting retrofit is one of the fastest, most reliable ways to do it. Between prescriptive utility rebates, custom energy-savings incentives, midstream instant discounts, and federal tax incentives, a well-designed retrofit can recover a significant portion of its cost. The catch: every utility runs its own program, with its own forms, deadlines, qualified-product rules, and pre-approval steps. Relumination handles all of it, in all 50 states, so the incentive money actually lands in your account.

The four ways you get paid

Types of commercial lighting rebates and incentives.

Prescriptive rebates

A fixed dollar amount per fixture or lamp for standard upgrades like high-bays, troffers, wall packs, and exterior poles. The simplest and most common rebate. In 2026, prescriptive lighting incentives rose about 17% on average, with outdoor categories like parking garages, canopies, and pole lights up 30% or more.

Custom & calculated rebates

Paid on the actual energy you save, watts reduced and kWh cut, rather than a flat per-unit amount. Larger projects and networked controls usually earn the most here, and utilities are increasingly moving this savings-based model into faster prescriptive tracks.

Midstream & instant discounts

Incentives applied at the distributor, so the discount comes straight off the product price with little to no paperwork for you. We use these wherever they beat the downstream rebate.

Networked lighting controls

Occupancy sensing, daylight harvesting, and scheduling now carry their own growing rebates on top of the fixture incentive, because controls multiply the energy savings. We design them in wherever the payback works.
