The opportunity
As an essential link between patients and health care, Cardinal Health keeps medical supplies moving to hospitals, surgery centers, and patients from a coast-to-coast network of large distribution centers. Delivering life-critical products on time makes facility uptime, order accuracy, and employee safety non-negotiable. Across the network, aging fluorescent and HID lighting was driving up energy and maintenance costs and leaving some pick, pack, and dock areas below the light levels the work demanded. Cardinal Health wanted a repeatable, measurable lighting standard it could roll out site by site.
What we did
Relumination assessed and upgraded a dozen Cardinal Health distribution centers across the country: Dixon CA, Tampa FL, Fife WA, Edison NJ, Hammond LA, Hudson WI, Omaha NE, Syracuse NY, Durham NC, Englewood CO, and Chandler AZ, plus an international site in the Dominican Republic. We standardized on high-efficiency LED fixtures paired with intelligent controls (Digital Lumens LightRules / SiteWorx, occupancy, daylight harvesting, and metering), engineered each site’s layout and light levels, self-performed the installs inside live facilities, and filed the utility rebates end to end.
The result
Across the completed sites the program cuts roughly 6.1 million kWh a year, about a 73% reduction in lighting energy, with high-bay areas reaching close to 85% in combined energy and maintenance savings. Relumination installed about 8,800 LED fixtures and captured more than $195,000 in utility incentives, avoiding on the order of 4,300 metric tons of CO₂ a year. Cardinal Health now runs one lighting spec, one controls platform, and one accountable partner across its distribution network.
