LED Lighting: It Takes a Beating and Keeps on Shining

LED lighting is well-known for its energy efficiency and long life. These two benefits alone are sufficient reasons for using them. However, the list of benefits of using this remarkable technology is more extensive. The main reason for this is that it’s radically different from conventional lighting. That is, it’s solid state. This also makes it virtually indestructible (within reason). Unlike light bulbs and tubes, it’s just a solid chunk of semi-conductor material with no glass bulbs, tubes, or internal filaments. This makes it ideally suited for harsh environments that quickly knock out conventional lighting. These environments include:

Shipping Dock Lights

These lights attach to the dock opening and light up the inside of trailers after they’ve backed into place. A lot of activity associated with loading and unloading trailers occurs next to these lights. So it’s not surprising that they get knocked around a lot. Another type of dock lighting is used for guiding trailers while they back into place. These must also endure mechanical shock.

Industrial Equipment Lighting

Industrial equipment often involve cyclical movement of its components, which produce lots of vibration. Operating and working safely around this equipment requires good lighting. However, conventional lighting doesn’t hold up well to sustained vibration. Simply leaving the equipment unlit is not a solution. LEDs are perfect for this and are even suitable for lights attached directly to the equipment.

Areas With a High Vandalism Risk

Good lighting deters crime in places such as parking lots, public garages, and parks. LEDs in out-of-reach places provide more reliable lighting. In addition to increasing public safety, LED lighting reduces the liability risks faced by the property owner.

Areas Where Food Is Prepared or Processed

Accidents can shatter glass tube or bulb lighting. This exposes the food below to falling shards of glass and may require disposing the food in order to protect the public. As mentioned previously, LEDs don’t have glass tubes or bulbs.

If vibration or mechanical shock is giving you problems with your lighting, LEDs may be the solution you need.
