No-Heat LEDs Keep Energy and A/C Costs Low at Fitness Centers

When customers are looking for a gym to work out in, they look for a place that is clean, well-lit, feels comfortable inside and has reasonable prices. It’s uncomfortable to work out in a warm, humid gym. A general manager of the Bristol Marriott Hotel in the United Kingdom had that exact problem. He also knew that the problem needed to be solved without incurring too much cost.

The Bristol Marriott Hotel replaced 145 50-watt halogen lamps throughout the fitness center with 4-watt Greenled Anatares LED lamps, and as the general manager hoped, they were able to turn the air conditioning down and make a more comfortable-feeling environment for their guests. With the old halogen lamps, it took 14 watts of energy per each halogen lamp to keep the air conditioning down enough for the room to feel comfortable. Thanks to the retrofit, the hotel will save $8,000 on electricity and reduce its electricity consumption by 43,822 kWh annually. According to the case study, the hotel was looking into installing LED lighting in the hallways and bathrooms, and was looking into LED lighting options for its other locations around the United Kingdom.
