The opportunity
Since 1992, Poly Print has been a family-owned leader in flexographic printing, serving customers across the country from its state-of-the-art facility in Tucson, Arizona. As part of a robust environmental-excellence program, the team recognized that their existing fluorescent and metal-halide lighting was both costly to run and hard on the environment. The fixtures were also expensive to maintain: strict food-industry compliance guidelines require no breakable parts, and because many of Poly Print's customers are food-related companies, the goal wasn't just to meet those guidelines but to exceed them.
What we did
Printing facilities are complex environments, with light-level needs that differ from warehouse to production to inspection areas. Relumination worked hand-in-hand with Poly Print's production, quality-control, and management teams to put the right light in every space while cutting energy use. The result was an intelligent lighting system that can be scheduled to match shift requirements, harvest daylight from the building's skylights, and deliver ample light exactly when and where it's needed. Beyond the production and warehouse areas, the offices and exterior were addressed too, added perimeter lighting for safety and security, and office fixtures upgraded to energy-efficient T8 and LED lamps with motion sensors.
The result
The upgrade delivers about $56,782 a year in energy and maintenance savings, roughly $758,000 accrued to date, with a 2.37-year payback, all while cutting 449,816 kWh annually and improving light quality and compliance across the plant.
