The opportunity
Harbor Freight, founded in 1977, runs more than 1,300 retail stores plus a large e-commerce operation served by distribution centers on both coasts. The Moreno Valley site had grown past 1.2 million square feet, and the aging lighting was driving up both power and maintenance costs, made worse by some of the highest electricity rates in the country. Hundreds of skylights across the roof were doing nothing for the electric bill. Harbor Freight brought in Relumination to cut energy and maintenance while raising light quality on the floor.
What we did
Relumination replaced the legacy high bay fixtures with intelligent LED high bays and layered in controls tied to the existing skylights. With daylight harvesting, fixtures dim automatically when natural light is available and come up only as needed, so the building stops paying to light space the sun is already lighting. Our own crews handled the install across the live facility with minimal disruption to operations, and we managed the utility rebate filing end to end.
The result
Light levels improved by more than 50 percent, turning a dark warehouse into a bright, clean, safer place to work, while energy and maintenance load dropped sharply. The captured utility rebate shortened the payback, and the controls keep the savings compounding every day the sun is out.
